Who We Are
Employment and Community Development (ECD) is a program of Mennonite Central Committee, British Columbia. Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is the relief and development agency of the Mennonite Churches in North America. MCC, a faith based non-profit agency and motivated by gratitude and compassion, works among people suffering from poverty, conflict, oppression, natural disaster, social isolation and marginalization. MCC currently has more than 1,400 workers in more than 58 countries worldwide. To read more about MCC's other programs in BC and its' international work, please visit MCC BC
The ECD story began as a single program working with mentally challenged adults. In the years that followed we developed a reputation for innovative, efficient, high quality work. We have worked with all levels of government and have demonstrated an ability and a willingness to develop effective partnerships, whether that was to deliver programs or tackle community development initiatives focused on the most vulnerable.
Today we run programs and social enterprise endeavours across the lower mainland through our offices in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Richmond and Vancouver. Our programs are as diverse as the people we serve.
They include:
- job search skills, career planning, workplace success skills,
- financial literacy and asset building,
- retail sales and customer service training,
- video production skills for youth,
- pre-employment training for women,
- landscape maintenance work and training
- employment support for skilled immigrants
Through our mandate we continue to walk alongside people and communities as they seek to find sustainable employment.
